The international engineering and design consultancy Ramboll Oil & Gas has been awarded an important contract by Zakum Development Co. (ZADCO), Abu Dhabi, which entails an integrity study of 15 subsea pipelines.
The project will enable ZADCO to plan maintenance and potential replacement of equipment and thereby extend the remnant life of its existing pipelines.
The scope of work includes review of available pipeline data, assessment of current and future pipeline integrity as well as calculation and prediction of corrosion growth rate.
The 15 pipelines are part of an oil pipeline network in ZAKUM field offshore UAE, which is one of the largest offshore oil field in the world. Production on the ZAKUM field started in 1983 and the project is performed in order to extend the design and service life of selected pipelines in the field by an additional 20 years.
Extending the lifetime of existing assets
Ramboll will perform the Remnant Life Assessment (RLA) on the 15 subsea pipelines and assess their condition for future operations and life extension.
According to Jesper Thomsen, Ramboll director, the current market conditions foster a focus on extending the lifetime of existing equipment and assets.
"This project falls very much in line with our strategy to pursue asset integrity specialist services, starting with jackets and pipelines, where we have some very capable resources," Thomsen said.
The study will be finalized early 2016.
