Quadrant Energy encountered condensate rich gas from at least three hydrocarbon columns at the Roc-1 well, offshore Western Australia.

Roc-1 is located in WA-437-P about 20km southeast of the Phoenix South-1 well, which encountered oil in 2014.
Wireline logging over the interval from 4380m to 4420m has confirmed reservoir quality sands with net hydrocarbon interval of 10m from the gross 40m sand column, joint venture partner Carnarvon Petroleum said.
Through pressure testing, at least three discrete hydrocarbon columns have been encountered. Formation fluid sampling also confirmed a liquids rich gas with a condensate ratio of 20-40 bbl per millon cubic feet of gas, which is being evaluated at the rig site using downhole instruments with lab testing to confirm fluid type to follow.
Hydrocarbons that have been discovered in the Roc-1 well are interpreted to be in a down dip location on the structure close to the calculated gas water contact.
“The information obtained while drilling the Roc-1 well confirms a live hydrocarbon system in the area, with indications at this early stage of evaluation that the condensate rich gas resides in reservoir capable of being recovered in a conventional manner,” Carnarvon managing director, Adrian Cook said. “While the composition of the recovered hydrocarbons will need to be confirmed by laboratory tests, it appears the condensate rich gas is different to the Phoenix South-1 oil that had a high gas content.”
Following completion of sampling, well operations will be complete with the JV deciding not to deepen the well, or retain the well for future reentry.
Roc-1 was spudded in November 2015 using the Noble Tom Prosser drilling rig.
