Total E&P Norge has been approved to drill a wildcat on its Solaris prospect in production licence 618, in the southern North Sea, bordering the UK shelf, announced the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) on 21 December.
The drilling permit allows the Mærsk Gallant jackup to conduct drilling operations on well 1/5-5. The well will be drilled some 40km northwest of the ConocoPhillips' operated Ekofisk field. It is the first in the license, the NPD said.
Total E&P Norge owns and operates the license with 60% interest. Its partners include GDF Suez E&P Norge and Petoro, (20% interest, each). Production licence 618 was awarded in 2012 (APA 2011) and is valid until 2020.
Earlier this year, Total awarded Plexus Holdings a US$3.3 million contract for POS-GRIP wellhead systems, associated equipment and mudline services for the French major's ultra high temperature and high pressure Solaris gas exploration well.
Total E&P Norge has been busy. Last week, the company announced that it had spud exploration well 34/6-4 on the Uptonia prospect in the North Sea. The well is currently being drilled by the Leiv Eiriksson semisubmersible drilling rig. It will be drilled to a total depth of about 4150m.
