Statoil senior vice president Tove Stuhr Sjøblom has taken over as managing director of Statoil Production UK.
As the new head of the company’s Aberdeen office, Sjøblom is responsible for Statoil’s upstream development and production activities in the UK and Ireland.
“Statoil is a key energy partner of the UK, with a range of activities upstream and downstream, within oil and gas as well as renewables. The UK and Ireland play an important role in our international growth within oil and gas production. I look forward to continue building on our long-term investments to realize our growth plans,” says Tove Stuhr Sjøblom.
Tove Stuhr Sjøblom comes from the position of senior vice president for Sub-Sahara Africa in Statoil’s business area for international development and production, a job she has held since 2013.
She is replacing Gunnar Breivik, who has taken up a position as the group’s head of corporate investigation.
“I am excited to get this chance to contribute to building a new asset for Statoil. It is a privilege to be part of this industrial venture and continue to build on the strong foundation that has been created for Statoil in Aberdeen under Gunnar’s leadership,” says Sjøblom, who has also been appointed as a member of the board of industry organization Oil & Gas UK.
Tove Stuhr Sjøblom holds an MSc in applied geophysics from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).
She started her career in Norsk Hydro ASA as an exploration geophysicist and project leader. She went on to take the role of exploration manager in both Canada and in the North Sea, and has also been asset manager for the Ormen Lange field development.
Following the merger between Statoil and Hydro in 2007, she took over the responsibility for exploration strategy on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. In 2009 Tove became senior vice president for exploration in Norway before she joined Statoil’s Corporate Executive Committee as head of staff functions in 2011.
Statoil has the last few years ramped up its UK upstream activity, both within exploration and production. On the UKCS, Statoil is the operator of the Mariner field, currently under development, and the Bressay project, which is in the concept evaluation phase. The company is also a partner in the Alba and Jupiter fields. In Ireland Statoil is a partner in the Corrib project.
Following the final investment decision on the Mariner field in 2012, Statoil established an office in Aberdeen, and has grown its local organization to around 140. A new Statoil operations centre for the UKCS is under construction at the Prime Four Business Park, Kingswells, 4mi (7km) west of Aberdeen city centre, and will be ready for move-in in 2Q 2016.
