Daisy’s Series 4520Cx ruggedized blowout preventer (BOP) control computer is IECEx Zone 2 and UL Division 2 certified and includes advanced safety features.

A certification by IECEx is the highest standard in the safety of equipment used in explosive atmospheres. Daisy is one of the few ruggedized computer manufacturers in the US that has successfully completed the IECEx certification process for a workstation that is designed for hazardous oil exploration environments, Daisy Data said.

The Series 4520Cx workstation comes standard with a 2.0 GHz (2.8 GHz Turbo) i7 CPU and 8GB of RAM. Designed with a dual-power input relay for CPU, each unit is equipped with automatic failover without CPU restart. Power is continuous and uninterrupted. All units are IP66 rated and include rugged glass-on-glass resistive touchscreen interphase and two fiber-optic network connections.

Units are configurable with up to five front-mounted pushbutton switches with stainless steel lock-out flip covers that prevent human errors from permanently sealing a well inadvertently.

The Series 4520Cx is rated for 0 to 55°C and includes a Solid State Cooling device that ensures that this critical control computer will not fail due to extreme temperatures. Daisy’s built-in cooling system, unique to this unit, prevents the interior temperature from rising 5-degrees above the ambient temperature. An over-temp/-cooling malfunction alarm contact provides added security. Units are also compliant with DNV Type 2.4 standard.

“The Series 4520Cx workstation is designed to improve safety in high-risk environments using built-in dual redundancy features that improve reliability and reduce the potential for human error,” David “Avi” Shefet, Daisy president said. “Achieving IECEx certification for series embodies Daisy’s commitment to developing technically advanced workstations through custom development in collaboration with our customers.”
