Red Marine delivers load test system to Technip

Red Marine delivered a high capacity load test system, to Technip, for the periodic load testing of the pipelay system onboard the Skandi Africa, a newly built pipelay and construction vessel. The vessel has been specifically designed for pipelaying in harsh environments and in water depths of up to 3000m.

The load test system allows all key pipelay system elements to be load tested with a single, purpose built tool. This reduces the time required to complete static overload testing prior to first operations and throughout the life of a pipelay system.

“This is the fifth pipelay load test system we have supplied to a leading global subsea contractor,” said Joe Orrell, managing director at Red Marine. “In the current oil and gas climate, our clients are focused on finding ways to increase operational safety whilst also saving time and reducing costs.”

Each load test system is tailored to meet the client’s specific requirements. The Technip system was designed, manufactured, assembled and fully tested by the Red Marine team in 14 weeks.  Providing a test load of up to 850-tonnes, the system has already been used to complete the acceptance testing of the Skandi Africa pipelay system prior to the vessel commencing operations.

Red Marine specializes in offshore installation engineering, subsea solutions and qualification testing.
