OE15: Expro inks US$25 million North Sea contracts

Expro has been awarded two contracts together worth US$25 million in the North Sea.

In one contract, Wintershall has awarded Expro a five-year contract for work on its recently approved Maria development project, in the Haltenbanken area, offshore Norway.

Wintershall’s Maria field is located in the Norwegian Sea, about 20km east of the Kristin field and about 45km south of the Heidrun field in the Halten Terrace.

The five-year contract includes multi-well completions with two optional two-year extensions. Expro will supply a complete workover riser system including surface test tree and subsea landing string systems. Operations, maintenance and engineering support services will also be provided for the system including global riser analysis and life cycle fatigue monitoring, the company said.

Expro, which will open a new facility in the UK later this month, was also awarded a contract from Premier Oil for its Catcher development in the UK North Sea to provide surface well testing and fluid analysis services on 22 subsea wells for three years, with options for three one-year extensions.

“Expro’s world-renowned subsea technology and fluids expertise have been applied in similar successful projects across the North Sea, and we have provided over 2000 well tests and 150 well testing packages to the global oil and gas industry,” Neil Sims, Expro VP, Europe CIS said. “In the UK, developments such as Catcher are integral to the future of the North Sea, and these contracts will see Expro utilise local expertise and the supply chain in Aberdeen and Great Yarmouth.

Wintershall received approval from Norway’s Ministry of Petroleum and Energy last week for its $1.8 billion Maria development, which is estimated to contain 180 MMboe recoverable resources, with a majority of that being oil.

Maria’s development includes two subsea templates located on the ocean floor tied back to several host installations in the area. Under the approved development solution, the Maria reservoir will be linked via a subsea tieback to the Kristin, Heidrun and Åsgard B production platforms. The Maria well stream will go to the Kristin platform for processing while supply of water for injection into the reservoir will come from the Heidrun platform and lift gas will be provided from Åsgard B via the Tyrihans D field subsea template. Processed oil will be shipped to the Åsgard field for storage and offloading to shuttle tankers. Gas will be exported via the Åsgard Transport System to Kårstø.

Earlier today (8 September), Wintershall also awarded Odfjell Drilling a $175 million contract for the drilling of six production wells on the Maria field in the Haltenbanken area on the Norwegian Continental Shelf using the Deepsea Stavanger semisubmersible. The contract comes with a one-well option prior to the firm contract and two wells after the firm period. The estimated contract value of the optional wells is $98 million.

Expro will be exhibiting at the SPE Offshore Europe Conference & Exhibition in Aberdeen at stand 2C130 from 8-11 September 2015.

Charles Woodburn, CEO, is this year’s technical chairman and will focus on the conference technical programme, whilst Alistair Geddes, executive VP, will lead a technical session on ‘Developing Talent to Meet Demand – I’.

In combination with daily technical presentations, Expro will feature a range of integrated products and services including Subsea Safety Systems, Well Test, SafeWells, Fluids, Well Intervention, Meters, Wireless Well Solutions, DST/TCP and Production.
