With less than two weeks now left to SPE Offshore Europe, Shreyasi Bhaumik, Client Services Director, BCM Public Relations, gives her top 12 tips to surviving Europe's biggest oil show:
Always plan ahead of the event. Review the speaker program and prioritize the ‘must see’ conferences and presentations.
Step outside your area at an event - you will expand your knowledge base and may learn something unexpected that helps your own business.
Take a backpack to carry things, rather than a bag or briefcase with handles. This keeps your hands free for taking notes, giving and receiving business cards etc.
Wear comfortable shoes and bring a spare pair. Running between exhibitions halls and stands in uncomfortable shoes will leave you exhausted for the rest of the day.
Have a jacket handy, the air conditioning tends to be cranked up at these shows and you don’t want to be freezing to your bones. For the ladies, bring an extra pair of tights.
Extra business cards, you will run out of them sooner than you think!
Have a big breakfast, you’ll be lucky if you can get time to squeeze in lunch on a very busy show day
High demand can take a toll on the Internet at trade shows, take print outs of all-important documents to make sure you don’t miss anything.
Give yourself enough time to get to the show in the mornings, traffic can be a nightmare with a large number of people traveling to the same place
Carry local currency. Kiosks at the venue and public transport sometimes don't accept credit cards
Freebies at events are great, but they go fast. So make sure you grab the best ones when you see them, otherwise they will be gone!
For exhibitors, going to the venue the day before the event is a good ide because you can plan around the location of your stand. It’ll be easier telling delegates and colleagues where your stand is if you know yourself
