Chinese shipbuilder, SINOPACIFIC Shipbuilding Group won the bid for the construction of nine anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessels for Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. (ADNOC) and its wholly owned subsidiary, ESNAAD.
The design that won the bid is the SPA80A, which is an AHTS with electric propulsion system and a bollard pull of 80-tonne designed by Shanghai Design Associates, the SINOPACIFIC OSV design team.
All nine vessels, scheduled for delivery in 2017, will be tailored to ADNOC’s specific requirements, including the ability to operate under complex conditions of shallow water, high salinity, high temperatures and high humidity in the Persian Gulf.
In May, SINOPACIFIC launched two platform support vessels (PSV), SPP17As, at its Zhejiang shipyard. These vessels were the first two of three PSVs contracted by Mexico's Naviera Petrolera Integral.
PEMEX, a Mexican state-run oil company, will use the three SPP17As for the development of its oil and gas projects.
Naviera’s president, Juan Pablo Vega Arriaga says this project does not only create jobs, but also builds a bridge of friendship for the economic communications between Mexico and China.
