According to the Baker Hughes offshore rig statistics, Latin America’s rig count is 62, down from 69 a month ago and down from 70 a year ago.
The Europe offshore count is holding steady at 48, the same as it was one month ago and one year ago.
Offshore Africa, the rig count is down to 29, down from 31 a month ago, and 36 a year ago.
In the Middle East, Baker Hughes counts 49 offshore rigs, which is an increase from last month’s count of 41, but lower than the 51 rigs operating offshore a year ago.
In Asia Pacific, 89 rigs are working offshore, down from 95 a month ago and significantly lower than the 115 rigs working there a year ago.
In total, the combined international rig count is currently 277, down from 284 a month ago, and 320 a year ago.
Offshore the US, the rig count stands at 28, down from 32 a month ago and down more than 50% from 58 a year ago.
Offshore Canada, the rig count is four, up from two a month ago, which was the same amount one year ago.
Altogether, the North American rig count is 32, losing two rigs from a month ago and down 28 from a year ago (60).
Worldwide, the offshore rig count for June is 309, slightly down from 318 a month ago and down from 380 one year ago.
The Baker Hughes rotary rig counts are counts of the number of drilling rigs actively exploring for or developing oil or natural gas in the US, Canada and international markets. Baker Hughes has issued rotary rig counts as a service to the petroleum industry since 1944, when Hughes Tool Co. began weekly counts of US and Canadian drilling activity. Baker Hughes initiated the monthly international rig count in 1975.
