Teekay has chosen Singapore-based Sembcorp Marine’s subsidiary Sembawang Shipyard to carry out a floating storage and offloading (FSO) conversion for the unit due to be deployed on Statoil's Gina Krog field in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea.

The contract, worth S$56 million, will see Sembawang Shipyard work closely with Teekay to convert the shuttle tanker Randgrid into an FSO. Major conversion works include installation of a new helideck, hull reinforcements, refurbishment of submersible turret loading compartment, installation of offshore crane, loading hose reel package, azimuth thruster and replacement of two generators, as well as associated piping and additional cabling works. The yard will also fabricate and install new living quarter decks on the vessel.
The vessel is expected to arrive at Sembawang Shipyard in June this year, with completion in 11 months, after which the FSO Gina Krog will head towards the Norwegian North Sea under a charter contract between Teekay and Statoil.
Gina Krog
Gina Krog is about 30km northwest of Sleipner. The field, previously called Dagny, was originally a minor gas discovery just north of Sleipner. It has been considered for development on a number of occasions since it was discovered in 1974.
When oil and gas were proven in the neighboring structure Gina Krog Øst (previously Dagny) in 2007, the Gina Krog landscape was reviewed and, following further appraisal in 2008-11, a contact was determined between Gina Krog and Gina Krog Øst, confirming substantial volumes of oil under the entire structure.
The development of Gina Krog will be among Statoil's major new developments with an estimated 225 MMboe.
A plan for development and operation (PDO) was submitted in December 2012. It comprises a platform, with wells drilled using a mobile jackup drilling rig. Liquids will be transported via a tanker, and the gas via the nearby Sleipner field facilities.
