In a statement, Bourbon said the crew boat was boarded off the Nigerian coast the night of 8 April 2015. The company immediately activated an emergency unit based in Nigeria.

The statement went on to say that Bourbon Interoil Nigeria is in contact with the families, supports and informs them regularly. Bourbon will not disclose any more information.

According to Bourbon’s website, the company has more than 30 years experience and transports more than 2.5 million people annually, as well as materials through its fleet of surfers and fast support intervention vessels (FSIVs).

It has a fleet of more than 250 surfers or speedboats used to transport 20-90 people, including two to five crew members at a time, at 24-40 knots. The locations of bases and affiliates include the West African coast (Nigeria, Cameroon, Gabon, Congo, Angola), Southeast Asia (Myanmar, Indonesia, Thailand), Gulf of Arabia, Trinidad & Tobago, Brazil, Mexico, East Africa and the Mediterranean.

In January, Bourbon commissioned three next-generation heavy duty work remote operated vehicles (ROVs) designed by FMC Technologies Schilling Robotics.
