Lundin onstream off Malaysia

Lundin’s first development project offshore Malaysia, the Bertam field, is now onstream, with plans to continue with production from remaining wells throughout 2015.

Bertam is located on Block PM307, offshore the eastern side of Peninsular Malaysia.

Production began from four pre-drilled development wells. The remaining production wells will be drilled sequentially and put onstream through the rest of the year, with the field’s gross plateau rate of 15,000 b/d expected to be achieved by late 2015. The field is estimated to contain gross reserves of 18.4 MMboe.

The field has been developed with a wellhead platform adjacent to a spread-moored floating production storage and offloading unit (FPSO) in 75m water depth.  Subsurface development consists of 14 horizontal wells completed with electric submersible pumps.

First oil was achieved on 5 April, 18 months from approval of the plan of development (POD) by Petronas in September 2013. It has been delivered on time and on budget, amounting to approximately US$400 million gross, excluding any FPSO related costs.

Bertam marks Lundin Petroleum’s third project to be put into production over the last four months, with the Edvard Grieg field coming onstream during 4Q 2015. Lundin says it remains on track to achieve a 2015 exit production rate of in excess of 75,000 boe/d.

Lundin began development drilling at Bertam last summer. Lundin Malaysia completed the Bertam-2 appraisal well in 2012 and the company acquired the PM307 license block in 2011.

Lundin Petroleum through its wholly owned subsidiary, Lundin Malaysia is the operator with 75% working interest with partner Petronas Carigali (25%).

Lundin Malaysia operates seven blocks in Malaysia: PM307, PM308A, PM308B, PM319, PM328, SB303 and SB307/308.

In October, Lundin spudded the Kitabu-1 exploration well in Block SB307/308 offshore Sabah, Malaysia. The Kitabu prospect is a stratigraphic trap located 4km to the north of the Shell-operated producing South Furious 30 oil field, with target reservoirs in onlapping turbidite sandstones of the same Miocene sequence.

Lundin Petroleum estimates Kitabu’s to contain unrisked, gross prospective resources of 71MMboe.
