KrisEnergy hits at Rossukon-2

KrisEnergy’s Gulf of Thailand campaign is getting off to a good start with an oil and gas discovery already made at its first exploration well, the Rossukon-2.

Rossukon-2 was drilled to a total depth of 5460ft with the Key Gibraltar jackup, where preliminary logs indicated that the well intersected approximately 69ft true vertical depth (TVD) of net oil bearing sandstones and 37ft TVD of net gas-bearing sandstones, over five reservoir intervals, KrisEnergy said.

The exploration well in located in G6/48 at 210ft water depth and is near the Rossukon oil accumulation that was discovered in 2009. G6/48 covers 566sq km over the Karawake basin and is north of the G10/48 license, where KrisEnergy is developing the Wassana oil field.

The company expects the logging program to be complete later this week and at that time, Rossukon-2 will be plugged back and the Rossukon-2ST directional sidetrack well will begin drilling out approximately 1.3km to the northwest.

“The results from Rossukon- 2 provide an encouraging basis to drill a sidetrack well to further define the lateral extent of the hydrocarbon columns and explore for new zones,” says Chris Gibson-Robinson, KrisEnergy director E&P. “These wells, together with the original 2009 discovery well, will bring us a step closer to deciding commerciality of the accumulation and the potential development concept.”

KrisEnergy just began its Thai drilling campaign last week that includes 15 development wells in G6/48.

In June, the company awarded Shelf Drilling a contract for the Key Gibraltar for a firm six months for the Thai drilling program.

KrisEnergy took over operatorship of G6/48 in May 2014 and holds a 30% working interest in the concession. Partners include Northern Gulf Petroleum (40%) and Mubadala Petroleum (30%).
