Transocean scrapping rigs

In Transocean’s fleet update, the Switzerland-based company says it will be scrapping four of its rigs and 16 floaters that will cost up to US$325 million.

The Deepwater ExpeditionTransocean LegendTransocean Rather, and GSF Arctic III will all be scrapped in an environmentally responsible manner, according to the company.

Transocean says it expects its 1Q 2015 results to include an estimated non-cash charge of $300 million to $325 million, net of taxes.

The report included good news, announcing a one-well contract extension for the Sedco Express offshore Nigeria at a dayrate of $300,000, an estimated $9 million in backlog.

In addition, the ultra deepwater floaters, Discoverer SpiritGSF Jack RyanDeepwater Discovery, and Deepwater Pathfinder are stacked. The rigs were previously idle.

The estimated 2015 planned out-of-service time decreased by a net 102 days, mainly associated with the Henry Goodrich, which is idle.
