MSC launches MSC Oscar

Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) launched its newest vessel, the MSC Oscar.

The MSC Oscar has a 19,224 TEU capacity and is the largest container vessel ever built in regards to TEU capacity.

The vessel was inaugurated at the Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) Shipyard in South Korea on 8 January 2015 and will service trade routes between Asia and Europe.

The MSC Oscar is equipped with increased fuel efficiency engines for a healthier supply chain. For all its new orders, MSC trusts in the pioneering technology developed by Lukoil Marine Lubricants: the iCOlube. According to Lukoil, this is an ‘intelligent cylinder oil lubrication’ unit optimizing both the performance and overall efficiency of vessel engines.

MSC will also partner with Lukoil Marine on MSC’s next vessel, the MSC Oliver, which is scheduled to launch in April 2015.

“Congratulations to MSC on this fantastic achievement! We are very proud to be the lubricant supplier for the MSC OSCAR,” says Jan Thiedeitz, director of Lukoil Marine Lubricants. “The company specializing in marine lubricants is an important business partner for MSC, supplying lubricants to more than 100 vessels in the MSC fleet.
