Petrobras in light Muriú discovery

Petrobras encountered a light oil and gas discovery in the Sergipe basin, offshore Brazil.

The ultra deepwater discovery was made at the 9-SES-188D/9-BRSA-1280D-SES  well, located in the BM-SEAL-11 concession in Block SEAL-M-426, about 107km off Aracaju. It is part of the Sergipe-Alagoas basin deepwater exploration project.

According to Petrobras, the results confirm a light oil and gas discovery in the Muriú area between 37° and 40° API. The results presented excellent permoporosity conditions in the turbidities reservoirs with 54m thickness. Drilling results also presented a new light oil accumulation in a deeper reservoir, with 28m thickness and in good permoporosity conditions.

The well was drilled in a water depth of 2492m to a final depth of 5900m. Drilling results confirm extension of light oil and gas, 5.7km from the discovery well. The well is currently under evaluation.

Petrobras says it will continue with the discovery evaluation plan, as approved by Brazil’s Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP).

Petrobras is the operator and holds 100% interest of concession BM-SEAL-10.

Earlier this week, Petrobras spudded the second appraisal well at its Carcará pre-salt discovery in the Santos basin south of Rio de Janeiro, using Odebrecht Oil & Gas' ODN II drillship. The appraisal well is located 5km from the discovery well at 2070m water depth and will be drilled in a single phase down to a final depth of 6400m. Operations are expected to complete by mid-2015.
