Bibby Subsea taking delivery of Olympic Ares

Bibby Subsea will take delivery of its multi-functional subsea construction support vessel (CSV), the Olympic Ares, this month.

The 115m CSV has a 250-tonne heave compensated crane for subsea use to 3000m water depth and 1300sq m of clear back deck space and is due to arrive in Galveston, Texas on 16 December.

Two SMD Quantum MkIII 250hp 3000m rated Work Class remotely operated vehicles  (ROVs) were recently installed on the Olympic Ares, each include SMD’s extended tophat tether management system, telescopic A-Frame, umbilical winch, deck pack and fully integrated control cabin.

“Taking delivery of the Olympic Ares further expands our capacity for our oil and gas clients in the Gulf of Mexico, and allows us to continue to deliver comprehensive CSV support in this region,” says Andrew Duncan, Bibby Subsea president and managing director. “The Olympic Ares will be primarily focused on the US Gulf of Mexico market but will also be available to support project commitments in Mexico, Trinidad and Canada as required and is a strategic step into the deepwater construction market.”

Total E&P UK awarded Bibby Offshore a multimillion dollar contract in November for the Ellon and Grant field in the UK North Sea to use both the Olympic Ares and Polaris between July and September 2015

Also in November, Bibby Offshore took delivery of two Quantum MkIII 250hp 3000m-rated work class ROVs, increasing the fleet to nine SMD vehicles, including one Atom and six Quasars.

Bibby Subsea recently expanded its Houston location with a custom-built office complete with 6300sq ft of office space and a 2000sq ft warehouse.

Bibby Subsea is Bibby Offshore’s Houston-based division. The company currently has an international fleet of seven subsea support vessels and 17 ROVs.
