Block 15/06 covers about 2984sq km and is located approximately 350km northwest of Luanda and 130km west of Soyo.
The field is currently producing 45,000b/d using the N’Goma floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel. Production is expected to reach 100,000b/d in the coming months.
“The start-up of the West Hub in Angola is a milestone in Eni’s upstream activities,” says Claudio Descalzi, Eni CEO. “Starting from an extraordinary exploration success we have achieved an industry-leading time to market of only four years from the declaration of commercial discovery.”
The West Hub Development will begin a string of consecutive start-ups of the Sangos, Cinguvu, Mpungi, Mpungi North Area, Vandumbu e Ochigufu fields.
At Eni’s East Hub Development, start-up is scheduled to begin in 2017, which the company says will raise overall production from Block 15/06 to 200,000b/d.
In September, the Italian company announced it had discovered oil in Block 15/06 in the Ochigufu exploration prospect, also in the West Hub. Ochigufu 1 NFW, the 10th commercial oil discovery in the block, is about 150km off the coast and is estimated to contain 300MMbbl in place and will be tied into the N’Goma FPSO within the next two years.
Eni won the international bid round in 2006 and in Block 15/06, the company drilled 24 exploration and appraisal wells, discovering over 3 billion bbl in place and 850MMbbl of reserves.
Sonasing’s N’Goma sailed away from the Angolan Paenal Yard in July 2014 to begin operations for Eni’s West Hub.
Eni is operator of Block 15/06 with a 35% interest. Partners include Sonangol P&P (35%), SSI Fifteen Ltd. (25%), Falcon Oil Holding Angola SA (5%).
