Masirah Oil commissioned a new 3D seismic survey of Block 50 offshore Oman to be conducted by Dolphin Geophysical.

The Artemis Arctic. From Dolphin Geophysical.

Block 50 is located on the southeast coast of the Sultanate of Oman, Southwest Asia.

The seismic survey began in November 2014 using the Artemis Arctic vessel and is scheduled to be complete within approximately 45 days.

“The data collected will help increase our understanding of the geology in the area and provide more information for the use of Rex Virtual Drilling to select prospects for our planned multi-well exploration drilling programme in 2015 and 2016,” says Hans Lidgren, Masirah chairman.

Through Lime Petroleum, Rex International Holding holds a 65% indirect stake in Masirah.

Masirah holds 100% of the Block 50 Oman concession, which covers 16,903sq km.

Masirah discovered hydrocarbons in several formations at its second exploration well at the beginning of 2014 using the Aban VII jackup drilling rig. Its MNN #1 well was the first well to be drilled in Block 50, in which the company found non-commercial hydrocarbons in 4Q 2013.
