Benthic to survey offshore Mozambique

Published

Houston-based geosciences company Benthic has been awarded a contract by a subsidiary of Anadarko Petroleum Corporation for a deepwater geotechnical investigation in the Golfinho field offshore Mozambique.

Benthic’s PROD (Portable Remotely Operated Drill), operating from the Jaya Vigilant vessel, will perform rotary rock coring and piston coring in water depths up to 2500m.

In addition, an extensive program of Cone Penetrometer, Ball Penetrometer, Seismic Probe and pore pressure dissipation tests are planned.

Core transportation logistics and laboratory testing will be coordinated by Benthic during the offshore operations.

This project follows the initial geotechnical investigation Benthic executed at the Golfinho Field earlier this year.

Vice President of Operations, Greg Fyffe stated, “We are pleased that PROD’s proven superior performance in the challenging ultra deepwater geologies in Mozambique in 2014 has given us the opportunity to deliver another successful project for Anadarko in 2015.”

Benthic will begin mobilization onto the Jaya Vigilant in January 2015.
