The North West Shelf (NWS) Project partners, led by Woodside Energy, have approved the A$1.2 billion subsea Persephone project, off the north-west coast of Australia.
Persephone is the third major gas development for the NWS Project in the past six years, and will involve a two big bore deviated productions wells connected into a subsea manifold and then tied back 6.7km via a 12in. flexible flowline to the North Rankin A facility on the existing North Rankin Complex (pictured).
Project start-up expected in early 2018. The field is 135km north-west of Karatha, western Australian, in production license WA-1-L. The field was discovered in 2006, by the exploration well Persephone-1, which was about 8km north-west of the North Rankin Complex.
Woodside CEO Peter Coleman said Persephone would leverage Woodside’s core capabilities to unlock undeveloped resources and help maintain offshore supply to the Karratha Gas Plant.
“The NWS Project celebrated 30 years of domestic gas production and 25 years of LNG exports earlier this year and the approval of Persephone is the next step in continuing this success story,” Mr Coleman said.
The Persephone Project participants are: Woodside Energy (Operator 16.67%); BHP Billiton Petroleum (North West Shelf) (16.67%); BP Developments Australia (16.67%); Chevron Australia (16.67%); Japan Australia LNG (MIMI) Pty Ltd (16.67%); and Shell Development (Australia) (16.67%).
