Eni and the Turkmen State Agency for Management and Use of Hydrocarbon Resources have signed a memorandum for the possibility of extending Eni's current activities in Turkmenistan to the country's offshore sector in the Caspian Sea.
Eni's CEO Claudio Descalzi and Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi were present in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, for the contract signing, along with the Director of the State Agency for Management and Use of Hydrocarbon Resources, Yagshygeldy Kakayev, the chairman of State Concern Turkmenneft, Tachdurdy Begdjanov, and President of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
"These strategic agreements strengthen Eni’s presence in Turkmenistan, a country with a high exploration upside, where it began activities in 2008, and consolidates Eni’s cooperation with the national authorities and the State company Turkmenneft," the Italian explorer said on Tuesday.
Eni currently operates and holds a 100% stake in the onshore Nebit Dag block in Turkmenistan, where the Burun oil field is currently in production. As of 2011, Eni said it produces 11,000b/d in the country.
