CalEnergy spuds Australian well

CalEnergy spudded the Pryderi-1 well in WA-424-P, off Australia.

Stena Clyde. From Stena Drilling.

Pryderi lies in 75m of water and is located approximately 10km away from the joint venture’s existing Gwydion oil discovery.

According to partner IPB Petroleum, Pryderi-1 is a relatively shallow well and IPB estimates that the target reservoir will be intersected later this week.

Drilling began using the Stena Clyde semisubmersible rig.

IPB estimates the Pryderi prospect to have high, best and low prospective resources (100%) of 78MMbbls, 32MMbbls, and 12MMbbls respectively.

IPB says the Pryderi-1 well is aimed at not only testing a prospect but a new oil exploration play interpreted by the company to extend from WA-424-P through to WA-485-P cover an additional 27 other leads identified on pre-existing 2D seismic.

Regardless of the result at Pryderi-1, the JV has no plans to drill stem test and after logging the well will be plugged and abandoned.

CalEnergy is the operator of WA-424-P with 25% interest. IPB holds the remaining 75%.
