Fabricated at Dry Docks World Dubai, the subsea tank sits in around 135m of water and can store 300,000boe. it is 25m high and has a foot print of 45m by 45m.
Beginning in 2008, Atkins engineers have been involved in each step of the Solan project from concept development work, through to front-end engineering design (FEED) and then detailed design work in 2012-2013.
“The Solan project has been an integral part of our strategy to deliver green and brownfield design services to clients in addition to operational support,” says Ed Randall, Atkins project manager and principal naval architect. “Design is an area that we are continuing to invest in, and the innovative solution that we have provided to Premier and Chrysaor for the Solan field demonstrates the technical expertise of the team that has been working on the project over the last few years.”
Atkins’ oil and gas business has recently signed a five-year contract for the provision of structural integrity management services under a new framework agreement with oil and gas operator, Talisman Sinopec Energy UK Ltd., as well as an engineering support agreement with Maersk for three North Sea assets and a two-year framework agreement with Eni for assets in Western Australia.
