Italy's Eni signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Mexico's Pemex that will see the two companies cooperating and exchanging best practices in all three sectors of the oil and gas industry.
The preliminary agreement covers the exchange of knowledge in relation to technology, HSE and human capital management.
Pemex hailed both companies’ human capital as “highly specialized," saying the two state-owned firms would collaborate on training and developmental activities.
The MOU complements Pemex’s efforts to strengthen its technical skills and ongoing dialogue with companies, Pemex said.
As the recently-passed Mexican energy reforms opened the country’s oil and gas industry up to private investment for the first time in more than 75 years, this is the latest in a string of MOUs Pemex has signed in order to access expertise and technology that it might not have received without the reforms.
Just this week it was announced that Pemex and Chevron signed a MOU, agreeing to collaborate on issues related to deepwater, heavy oil and mature fields.
Eni, who opened a Mexico City office in January, said that “a possible future strategic partnership in Mexico’s upstream sector was discussed."
