Geoscience firm Benthic relocated its company headquarters to its new technology center in Houston on 29 September.
The facility, which contains 13,410sq ft of office space and 17,840sq ft of warehouse space, is located in Hammerly Business Park and contains Benthic’s research and development, training center and US maintenance facility. The workshop and warehouse space is being utilized for the maintenance of US-based Portable Remotely Operated Drill (PROD) spreads, along with an area for PROD testing, training and demonstration.
In November 2013, Statoil Tanzania AS awarded Benthic a contract for geotechnical site investigation services in Block 2 off the coast of Tanzania.
Under the Statoil contract, Benthic’s PROD 2 performed a site investigation survey and retrieved core samples up to 100m below the seafloor in Block 2. The company operated from the DP2-equipped Jaya Valour platform supply vessel.
The project comprised a 60-day geohazard study, pipeline and foundation design utilizing PROD2 gravity corer and box corer, deployed to work in challenging seabed terrain in water depths up to 2760m. The company collected more than 480m of high quality piston samples and 360m of PCPT data.
Benthic began mobilizing aboard the PSV Jaya Valour in December and began the offshore campaign in January.
