Dolphin Geophysical has been awarded an industry first ever 16 streamer 3D seismic contract for an undisclosed client in the Kara Sea.
The contract has a duration of approximately three months and will start in Q2 2015. Dolphin will use one of the high capacity ice classed 3D seismic vessels for the survey and fully take advantage of our wide-tow and powerful solution capabilities towing a large 16 streamer configuration with 100m seperation, to enable the client to acquire the large seismic program in a short time frame.
Russian firms Gazprom of Rosneft both have licenses in the Kara Sea.
In August, ExxonMobil, in partnership with Rosneft, began drilling operations in the Kara Sea’s Universitetskaya-1, using one of NADL’s semisubmersible rigs, the West Alpha, in the East Prinovozemelskiy area.
In July, a 2D seismic acquisition program started in the Kara Sea, said Rosneft. The program started 24 July using the research vessel Geolog Dmitry Nalivkin. The survey, covering 7000sq km, will take three months and will cover three Rosneft-operated Vostochno-Prinovozemelsky licenses.
The Vostochno-Prinovozemelsky licenses cover 126,000sq km in 40-350m water depth. (120-1000ft). The area has ice cover 270-300 days a year.
Rosneft a 66.7% participating interest in the joint-venture companies aiming to develop Kara Sea and Black Sea is 66.7 %, and ExxonMobil 33.3 %.
In January, Gazprom said it was planning 2D and 3D seismic acquisition programs in its Kara Sea license areas,
Gazprom holds subsurface use licenses for 19 blocks offshore the Kara and Barents Seas as well as the Sea of Okhotsk and the Sea of Azov where 17 hydrocarbon fields were discovered: Shtokmanovskoye, Kruzenshternskoye, Yuzhno-Kruzenshternskoye, Obskoye, Kharasavey-Sea, Severo-Kamennomysskoye, Kamennomysskoye-Sea, Chugoryakhinskoye, Tota-Yakhinskoye, Antipayutinskoye, Semakovskoye, Kirinskoye, Yuzhno-Kirinskoye, Mynginskoye, Prirazlomnoye, Dolginskoye and Beisugskoye.
