Vard Holdings Ltd. awarded Houston-based Forum Energy Technologies (FET) a contract for eight remotely operated vehicles (ROV) systems.
FET will supply eight Perry XLX 150HP work-class ROVs that will be mobilized on four new-build pipeline supply vessels (PLSV) for the DOF Subsea/Technip joint venture that was awarded four contracts by Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. (Petrobras) for operations in Brazilian waters.
FET expects to deliver the ROVs throughout 2015.
VARD will be in charge of the design and construction of the four PLSVs.
Of the four PLSVs, two will be equipped with a 300-tonne laying tension capacity and will be fabricated in Brazil with a high national content. They will be constructed at the Vard Promar, Recife in Brazil.
FET says the other two PLSVs are designed to achieve a 650-tonne laying tension capacity, that enables the installation of large diameter flexible pipes in ultra deepwater environments, such as the Brazilian pre-salt. FET goes on to say that these vessels have ground breaking capabilities for vessels of this type and size, requiring ROV services for pipe-laying at depths down to 3000m. These vessels will be constructed at Vard Søviknes in Norway.
The Perry XLX systems comply with the Petrobras’ requirements for accuracy and precision.
In July, FET announced an expansion of its DYNACON facility in Bryan, TX that doubled the square footage of its manufacturing space. FET also added a testing facility and an environmentally controlled blast and paint booth.
In August 2013, Petrobras awarded the JV between DOF Subsea and Technip contracts to build and operate the four PLSV. Under the agreement, Technip will manage flexible pipelay and Norskan, a DOF subsidiary, will be responsible for marine operations. Delivery of the PLSVs is scheduled for 2016-2017. Contracts will last eight years from start of operations, and could be renewed for another eight-year period.
