Singapore's Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) has said three people have died after a semisubmersible barge underdoing trials sank 2 nautical miles northeast of Sekupang, Batam, Indonesia, on Friday (18 July).
The barge was the POSH MOGAMI. The MPA said there were nine people on board the barge when the incident happened.
Indonesian authorities have since rescued six people (two Singaporeans, one Malaysian, one Dutch, one Filipino, and one Indonesian) and recovered three bodies (one Singaporean, one Chinese, and one Myanmar national)
As the Flag Administration of POSH MOGAMI, MPA is investigating the cause of the incident with the relevant authorities.
POSH MAGAMI, is a semisubmersible deck cargo and launch barge built in 2012, under ABS class, is 30,500-tons, with 25-ton/sq m deck strength. Its deck space is 150 x 40 x 10.5m.
