Australia-head quartered WorleyParsons has agreed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Wison Offshore & Marine to jointly work on ship-shaped floating LNG (FLNG), FPSO and other similar offshore oil and gas projects, targeting Australasia.
The news comes as it was reported that China's CNOOC is studying the possiblilty of building an FLNG vessel as a likely option to produce gas from projects in the South China Sea's deep waters.

Yesterday, China's China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) said it had found oil and gas shows on the Zhongjiannan exploration project, in the South China Sea, off the Paracel Islands. Read more: South China Sea find for CNPC
Under the agreement between Wison and WorleyParsons, the companies will cooperate to deliver projects on an engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) basis, leveraging WorleyParsons experience on the front end engineering and design of ship-shape FLNG and FPSO facilities with Wison’s execution and fabrication capabilities.
The focus of the efforts will initially target the Australasia region, including Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, and other Southeast Asia countries, but could be expanded to other areas where the companies feel they can provide a competitive offering to the market.
Earlier this year Wison was asked to deliver a FLNG concept study for the Pandora field, about 200km west of Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, estimated to have a 2C contingent resource of around 792Bcf of gas (or 132MMboe). “The focus area of our cooperation will be to expand the partnerships offering of flexible, cost effective and innovative FLNG, FPSO and other solutions to small and mid-scale developments that have typically been less able to capture value from the much larger-scale offerings we have seen in the marketplace” said WorleyParsons’ CEO Andrew Wood.
