SEG teams with Energistics on open standards

Energistics, the upstream oil and gas standards consortium, and the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG), the international society of applied geophysics, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to explore joint development opportunities of open standards for the upstream oil and natural gas industry.

The importance of open standards for data exchange and management best practices adds efficiency and business value to the global oil and natural gas industry. This MoU will allow the SEG and Energistics to coordinate, cooperate, and collaborate for the benefit of their respective member organizations and the industry at large. Recently the SEG and Energistics were part of a Standards Leadership Council team that collaborated to develop a freely available oil-industry units-of-measure standard.

“This agreement will fortify an already strong relationship between SEG and Energistics and increase our collective impact,” said Jill Lewis, longtime SEG Technical Standards Committee member and former chair. “Our committee is one of several within SEG that can use this bridge to advance applied geophysics.”

“Recent joint projects with the SEG showed us that an opportunity existed to collaborate at an even greater level for the benefit of the industry,” said Jerry Hubbard, President and CEO of Energistics. “This enhanced relationship with SEG will also strengthen our joint collaborative work through the Standards Leadership Council.”

About SEG
The Society of Exploration Geophysicists (www.seg.org), the international society of applied geophysics, is a not-for-profit organization that promotes the science of geophysics and the education of applied geophysicists. SEG exists to inspire, connect, and propel the people and science of geophysics. We foster the expert and ethical practice of geophysics in the exploration and development of natural resources, in characterizing the near surface, and in mitigating Earth hazards. The Society, which has more than 32,000 members in 138 countries, fulfills its mission through its publications, conferences, forums, educational opportunities, and multiple website resources.
