McDermott International has completed Ayatsil-B, one of Pemex’s four drilling platforms for use in the Mexican national’s Ayatsil-Tekel heavy oil field. The Houston-based company provided engineering, procurement, fabrication, pre-commissioning, load-out and sea-fastening services.
Located off Ciudad de Carmen in the Bay of Campeche near Cantarell, the oilfield that established Pemex as an international producer, Ayatsil is Pemex’s largest-ever discovery, with 3P reserves placed at an estimated 596MMboe.
Ayatsil-B’s substructure was floated out from McDermott International’s Altamira yard in Tamaulipas, Mexico, on 22 May. The eight-leg jacket and deck weighs more 11,535ton and can be installed in water up to 115m deep.
McDermott won its contract in May 2012, with the other three structures awarded to three other companies in the same year. Platform Ayatsil-A was awarded to CICSA, Ayatsil-C was awarded to Mexican construction company ICA Fluor, and Ayatsil-D to Commsa. The contracts for the platforms totaled more than US$370 million, and the facilities they represent will be the largest ever installed by Pemex.
Future development plans also calls for an FPSO.
