Wartsila wins intervention vessel supply deal

Wärtsilä will supply generating sets for two new well intervention vessels for Norway's Siem Offshore, the company announced on 30 June.

The contract's scope calls for the supply of eight 6-cylinder in-line Wärtsilä 32 generating sets. Each genset will be fitted with an SCR catalyst to clean the exhaust and NOx emissions so as to comply with the IMO’s Tier III environmental regulations, Wartsila said. Delivery will commence next May.

The two vessels, called Siem Helix 1 and Siem Helix 2, are Salt 307-designed DP3 class vessels, currently under construction at Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft (FSG) in Flensburg, Germany. Both vessels will be co-owned by Siem Offshore and Helix Energy Solutions Group.

It was announced in February that Helix entered a four-year contract with Petrobras to provide well intervention services offshore Brazil. Both vessels, which measure 158m long, are expected to be delivered by 2016.
