Rolls-Royce wins Island Offshore vessel design work

Rolls-Royce has secured a £35 million (US$58.5 million) contract to design and equip a large offshore support vessel for Norwegian ship owner Island Offshore.

The vessel, Island Victory, is a UT 797 CX design, featuring a 250 ton offshore crane, remotely operated vessels (ROVs) and a large moonpool. The bollard pull will be more than 400-tons, which Island Offshore said will allow the vessel to have heavy anchor handling capabilities. The Island Victory will be 123m long with a 1100sq m deck area. The vessel will be designed to load whole anchor sets on deck which will make it ideal for pre-laying anchors, Island Offshore said.

The Island Victory will have room for 110 people and will therefore be suitable for use as an accommodation vessel in oilfields.

Håvard Ulstein, Island Offshore CEO, said: "This will be an extremely strong workhorse with many capabilities. We are confident that Island Victory will be commissioned fast, as the need for subsea work is rising. The flexibility of also being an excellent anchor handling vessel makes it additionally attractive."

Delivery is scheduled from Vard Brevik in Norway in 2Q 2016. The hull of the vessel will be delivered from Vard Tulcea in Romania.

Island Offshore also announced that it recently ordered two offshore supply vessels of Rolls-Royce UT 717 CDX design which are to be completed by Vard Brevik in 3Q and 4Q 2015.
