Nexen Petroleum's Golden Eagle development living quarters [LQ] module sailed away from its fabrication yard yesterday, 19 May (pictured).
The LQ module was designed and built by Sembmarine SLP in Lowestoft at its Hamilton Dock. The 2000-tonne module, which will provide living accommodation for 140 people, had been loaded onto sea-going barges earlier this month, as had the 550-tonne, 70m-long bridge, and a 220-tonne flare boom for the same project.
On Sunday, 18 May 2014, the bridge and flare modules set sail, also destined for the Nexen Petroleum-operated Golden Eagle field, where Saipem's S7000 heavy lift vessel will position the modules onto the main deck structure, which is shortly due to be installed onto the jacket.
The Golden Eagle field is 130mi. offshore, northeast of Aberdeen.
Sembmarine SLP managing director Paul Thomson said: "The LQ module will be fully integrated into the Golden Eagle topside platform, so it was built to meet exacting weight specifications, and designed to minimize offshore installation and hook up time. In order to comply with the most recent statutory requirements, the LQ also incorporates the latest safe-deck designed helideck and parking bay, which includes a deck-integrated fire-fighting system (DIFFS)."
Sembmarine SLP Ltd. is a subsidiary of SMOE Pte Ltd. of Singapore, one of the world's largest contractors in offshore engineering, with access to over 15 construction yards around the globe.
