SMD announces an order from Aberdeen based Bibby Remote intervention Limited (BRIL), part of Bibby Offshore, to supply a further two Quasar MkII 150hp 3000m rated work-class remotely operated vehicles (ROV) complete with Launch and Recovery systems (LARs).
The ROV systems will be delivered during the 1Q and 2Q of this year.
Bibby are a rapidly growing service provider to the construction and Inspection, Maintenance, and Repair (IMR) markets and Bibby Offshore was recently recognised with a prestigious industry award, winning company of the year at the 2014 Subsea Expo Awards.
“SMD is delighted to have been awarded this order from BRIL,” Mark Collins, SMD’s RAS deputy managing director said. “The new vehicles will complement the other latest generation SMD ROVs currently operated by BRIL. These systems have received very good feedback, particularly with regard to reliability and performance. BRIL have reported zero down time on Quasars 14, 20 and 21, the fleet of ROVs which were delivered in September 2013.”
Bibby require the latest technology on their ROVs to provide the market with efficient and high performance operations. The new Quasars will be supplied with SMD’s Dynamic Positioning Control System DVECS-S, the most advanced DP system on the market. DVECS-S can be mated to a Multi-Beam Imaging Sonar, DVL and INS to allow a choice of object relative positioning. These backs up SMD’s approach of providing ROV systems that are robust, user friendly and easy to maintain whilst providing leading technological solutions.
Commenting on the award, Mark Wood, operations director for BRIL said: “The vehicle systems are a great addition to our existing fleet, and further enhances our capabilities as we look towards our planned global expansion. To date we have developed a strong working relationship with SMD, and we look forward to building upon this for the future.”
