A project milestone was achieved yesterday with the final heavy lift on Nexen Petroleum UK Ltd's Golden Eagle development platform living quarters module, currently under construction on Sembmarine SLP's Lowestoft yard, UK.
The single lift of the 70-tonne cantilevered helideck was carried out adjacent to the top deck of the six-storey offshore structure (pictured).
The LQ module, which is due for completion and load out in early May, is currently undergoing final stages of fitting out.
Sembmarine SLP's managing director Paul Thomson said: "This is a significant step in the completion process of our current project for Nexen UK. The project team and yard personnel are to be commended for the continuing high stands of safety in this difficult but incident-free operation."
The Golden Eagle development is in the UK sector of the North Sea, about 43mi. (70km) northeast of Aberdeen.
The US$3.09 billion investment ($1.85 billion net to Nexen), is expected to produce an estimated 140 MMboe (gross) of proved and probable reserves over an 18-yr period.
First oil is forecast for late 2014 and the development is expected to have an initial gross production rate of up to 70,000boe/d (about 26,000 boe/d net to Nexen)
In August last year, Heerema Fabrication Group’s Vlissingen fabrication yard completed the fabrication of two jackets for the Golden Eagle development.
