Petronas awards integrated contracts

Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) has announced a new gas discovery offshore Malaysia and the award of a three year integrated offshore installation contract.

Operator on Block SK320, Mubadala Petroleum, discovered gas in the Sintok-1 well, about 240km northwest of Bintulu, Sarawak. Well data indicates Sintok-1 to have a 292m gas column, and the operator is carrying out further evaluation to assess the volume of the discovery. Sintok-1 well is the third gas discovery in Block SK320, in which Petronas as a 25% stake, since the award of the block by PETRONAS in February 2010.

PETRONAS also said that in Indonesia, PETRONAS Carigali Ketapang Ltd, the operator for the Ketapang PSC offshore East Java, is drilling the Bukit Tua South-2 appraisal well, to assess the Bukit Tua South-1 oil discovery made in 2012.

The Bukit Tua-2 appraisal well penetrated the CD and Kujung carbonate reservoirs. A drill-stem test (DST) carried out for the CD carbonate interval recorded a flow rate of 1656 bbl/d at two-inch choke size. Another DST will also be carried out for the shallower Kujung reservoir. Evaluation to determine the extent of the Bukit Tua South field is on-going. Production from the Bukit Tua oil field is expected to start by end 2014.

PETRONAS holds 80% equity in the Ketapang PSC, with partner PT Saka Ketapang Perdana, a wholly-owned subsidiary of PT Saka Energi Indonesia, holding the remaining 20%.

PETRONAS also said it had awarded its Pan Malaysia Integrated Offshore Installation Contract to three local offshore installation contractors (OICs); TL Offshore Sdn Bhd, PBJV Sdn Bhd and GOM Resources Sdn Bhd.

The contract, split into four packages, and worth about RM10 billion in total, involves the transportation and installation for offshore facilities and includes all the necessary services required for the execution of the scopes such as marine spread services, required tools, specialized equipment and manpower services.

The contracts were won under a competitive tender open to local and international companies, said PETRONAS.

PETRONAS said the contract is part of continuing efforts to optimize its project deliveries and offshore activities in terms of safety, costs and schedule, while ensuring security and availability of the necessary offshore transportation and installation barges to execute work planned by production sharing contractors (PSCs) collectively.

These OICs will be providing T&I services to eleven PSCs: PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd; Sarawak Shell Berhad & Sabah Shell Petroleum Co.
