Colombian FLRSU receives topsides

Installation of topsides liquefaction equipment has begun on the Caribbean FLNG project that will be in service off Colombia, contractor Wison Offshore & Marine Ltd. announced. The topsides equipment will utilize the PRICO technology, supplied by subcontractor Black & Veatch, to liquefy natural gas.

Exmar NV was contracted by Pacific Rubiales to build, operate, and maintain the floating liquefaction, re-gasification, and storage unit (FLRSU), which will serve the onshore La Creciente field in Colombia’s lower Magdalena Valley basin for 15 years. The FLRSU is currently under construction at engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning (EPCIC) contractor Wison Offshore and Marine’s fabrication yard in Nantong, China.

The Caribbean FLNG project began fabrication in late 2012 and is on schedule to begin operation by 2Q 2015. The project achieved a key milestone in October 2013 when the three LNG storage tanks with a combined capacity of 16,100cu. m were installed in the barge hull, followed by the installation of the barge deck, completed in November.

“The topsides processing facility developed by Black & Veatch is the heart of this FLNG system and the safe and successful installation of this equipment is critical to the delivery of the project,” said Dwayne Breaux, President of Wison Offshore & Marine.

Once completed, the FLRSU will be able to convert 69.5 MMcf/d of natural gas from the field into LNG. The non-propelled barge, which will measure 140m x 32m x 18m, and will be able to store 14,000cu m in onboard tanks. The processing unit will be moored to a jetty in 15m water depth. Topsides equipment will weigh about 5000t.
