BP has chosen accommodation vessel provider Prosafe for a 13 month contract as part of a major upgrade project on its ETAP facility in the North Sea.
The US$98.2 million contract will see BP Exploration Operating Company Limited (BP) use of the Safe Caledonia semisubmersible accomodation vessel for a fixed period of 13 months, starting between mid-April and mid-July 2015,with three one-month options and one 14 day option.
The unit will provide accommodation support at the Eastern Trough Area Project (ETAP), which is 240km east of Aberdeen in the central North Sea.
ETAP comprises a central processing facility (CPF), operated by BP, incorporating a processing, drilling and riser (PdR) platform, bridge-linked to a quarters and utilities (QU) platform over Marnock, and a normally unmanned installation (NUI) on Mungo. A further seven fields produce through subsea manifolds tied back to the CPF.
ETAP is currently the largest producer for BP in the UK and Norwegian North Sea region. It is also one of BP Group’s top 15 fields, in terms of value. Peak production was in 2000, at 217,000b/d and 360MMcf/d gas. Its expected field life was 20 years, but continued reservoir delivery has led to potentially extending the economic life of the asset to 2030.

Trevor Garlick, region president, for BP’s North Sea business, said: “This is a significant investment in the provision of a facility that will enable us to extend the life of this valuable North Sea asset. The additional accommodation space will allow BP and its partners to increase activity aimed at enhancing production efficiency, improving plant reliability and maximising the recovery of oil and gas from our reservoirs.”
