Siri could restart Q2

Norwegian Energy Company ASA (Noreco) has said production is expected to restart from the Siri platform, offshore Denmark, in Q2 2014.

Production from the platform will be at reduced volumes until the Siri platform is permanently repaired, said Noreco.

Denmark’s DONG Energy is operator and 100% owner of the Siri platform, which was shut in during June this year after a crack was discovered in a bulkhead inside the tank sponson (riser support structure in connection with the storage tank) during routine maintenance.

Oil from the Nini, Nini East and Cecilie fields, in which Noreco has 30%, 30% and 61% stakes respectively, is normally processed, stored and shipped by tanker from the Siri platform. In the first six months of 2013, Noreco’s share of combined production from these three fields was 2893 bbl/d.

Siri’s problems date back to the end of 2009, when a routine inspection revealed cracks in a structure mounted on the outside of the storage tank, which is part of the oil storage tank structure below the Siri platform. Production resumed in 2010, after a temporary support structure was installed. In 2011, DONG took over full ownership of Siri after a disagreement over a permanent solution at Siri.

Siri first started production in 1999, with Statoil as operator. DONG took over ownership of the field in 2002, and the platform’s life has been extended through the tie-in of fields, including Nini, Cecile and Stine, during 2002-2004.

Originally, it was estimated that production from the Siri area would take place until and including 2007. DONG says it now expects production will last until at least 2020.

At the platform, gas, water and oil are separated. The oil is stored in a storage tank on the seabed. Part of the gas is flared for safety reasons. The majority of the water is injected into the oil reservoir to maintain pressure and consequently produce as much oil as possible.
