Petrobras’ P-55 sets sail

Petroleo Brasileiro (Petrobras) completed its semisubmersible P-55 floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel nearly six years after it was contracted. It passed testing and certification in the Rio Grande dock (ERG-1).

The P-55 is currently en route to the Roncador field and is one of nine new units coming online this year as Petrobras looks to ramp up production to 2.75 MMbo/d in 2017. It should reach its destination in about 12 days, where it will then drop anchor and hook up to 11 production and six water injection wells. Submarine pipelines coupled to the platform will export oil and natural gas.

The P-55 will be anchored in Brazil’s Campos basin in 1,800m of water. Petrobras said that the facility can produce about 180,000 b/d and treat 4 million cu. m/d of natural.

In keeping with the terms of the original contract, Petrobras said that the hull was constructed at Estaleiro Atlantico Sul (EAS) in Pernambuco. The topside was completed in the dry dock of the ERG-1 in June 2012. The two parts were then joined together later.

Construction work created about 5,000 direct jobs and 15,000 indirect jobs and reached a level of 79% domestic content mainly due to the fact that it was built and joined together entirely in Brazil. It is the largest semisubmersible in the country, and one of the largest in the world.
