Statoil awarded Oslo-based Inocean a contract for concept design and option for the front-end engineering design of a new arctic drillship.
The new gneeration Cat I drillship will be tailored for the Statoil Arctic step-up program, through suitable winterization, increased capabilities and a hull suitable for operations in ice-infested waters.
It will be designed to minimize the environmental footprint and with focus on health, safety and environment. The design is based on the INO-80 drillship that was introduced to the market for the first time at OTC.11 in Houston.
The contract follows a six-month design competition.
Inocean has operated as an independent design and engineering house since 1996. Its core business is within floating production, mobile drilling units, special vessels and SURF.
The company is also involved in the offshore renewable industry and has offices in Poland, Sweden and Brazil.
