Calgary-based BP Exploration (Canada) Ltd. has proposed a 3D seismic acquisition program over Exploration Licenses 2431, 2432, 2433 and 2434 (shown in dark green, center of map at right). The blocks are 230 to 370 km southeast of Halifax, Nova Scotia and water depths range from 700-4000m.
These licenses cover about 1.4 million hectares and were awarded to BP Exploration by the Canada Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board (CNSOPB) on 15 January 2013. http://oedigital.com/component/k2/item/645-bp-in-deepwater-off-nova-scotia
The survey program will be conducted in a phased approach, potentially stretching over two seasons. The first phase of acquisition is planned to begin April 2014: a multi-vessel, wide-azimuth towed streamer (WATS) 3D survey that may have to be completed in the subsequent work season (2015). There will also be a conventional or single-vessel, narrow-azimuth towed streamer (NATS) 3D survey in 2014 or 2015. Five to seven seismic vessels will be required for the WATS survey, and one or two for the NATS survey.
The two 3D acquisition areas will total approximately 14,000 sq. km. All seismic surveys will be conducted during the temporal window of 1 April - 30 November.
BP completed a Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) for exploration activities on the Eastern Scotian Slope (Phase 1B) in October 2012.
