Lundin wildcat comes up dry

Lundin Norway AS has plugged and abandoned well 16/4-7, northeast of the Sleipner Øst field in the central North Sea off Norway, after it was found to be dry.

The objective of the well, in 91m deep water, was to prove petroleum in Jurassic and Triassic reservoir rocks (Hugin and Skagerrak formations). The well encountered an almost 45m-thick Hugin formation and 50m-thick Skagerrak formation in Upper Triassic, both with very good reservoir properties.

The well was drilled to a vertical depth of 2600m below sea level by the Bredford Dolphin, and was terminated in the Skagerrak formation in the Triassic.

Bredford Dolphin is now headed to oil discovery 16/2-6 Johan Sverdrup in PL 501, also in the Norwegian sector of the central North Sea, to drill appraisal well 16/5-4, and operated by Lundin.
