Cidade de Paraty in production

The FPSO Cidade de Paraty went onstream, beginning commercial production in the Santos Basin Lula Nordeste pre-salt, Petrobras announced on June 6 2013.

The Cidade de Paraty FPSO is the second unit deployed on the giant Lula discovery and is located approximately 300km off Brazil, in the north east corner of the BM-S-11 block. It is capable processing up to 120,000 barrels of oil and 5 MMcm/d of gas.

Petrobras partner and BG Group Chief Executive Chris Finlayson said the FPSO's connection demonstrated continued progress in the development of the company's major growth projects.

"We now have three FPSO vessels onstream in the Santos Basin, two of which have started production this year alone as our development program ramps up," Finlayson said. "It is a testament to the excellent working relationship we have with our partners and it shows the tangible progress we are making in bringing these world class discoveries to fruition in line with our plans."

Petrobras, the FPSO's operator, said the first well (7-LL-11-RJS) to be connected to the platform, has the potential to produce 25,000 b/d, but it will be restricted to 13,000 b/d during the first month. Production will be ramped up as natural gas processing and reinjection systems are commissioned, the company said. Petrobras plans to connect another seven production wells and six injection wells over the next few months. Peak production, 120,000 b/d, is expected for 2H 2014.

The Lula Nordeste field, which is estimated to hold 8.3 billion boe in total recoverable reserves, produces high quality, medium density (29º API) crude. The oil will be taken by tankers while gas output will be piped to the Monteiro Lobato gas treatment unit (UTGCA), in Caraguatatuba, Brazil, through the Lula-Mexilhão gas pipeline.

Block BM-S-11 is operated by Petrobras (65%) in partnership with BG E&P Brasil Ltda (25%) and Petrogal Brasil S.A. (10%).
