Lundin Petroleum is to update its reserves estimates on the giant Johan Sverdrup field offshore Norway after its latest appraisal well completed.
Lundin says the latest well on the find, 16/2-21 located in PL501, had been a success finding a net oil column of 12m in a gross Jurassic reservoir sequence of 30m.
Lundin says the sequence has excellent reservoir quality with a high net to gross ratio and oil water contact was established at 1922m below sea level.
The well was drilled to 2045m below sea level and will now be plugged and abandoned.
Ashley Heppenstall president and CEO of Lundin says: "The latest Johan Svedrup appraisal well will be incorporated into the latest reservoir model which will be used to update resource estimates later this year. The well again encountered Volgian reservoir of excellent quality and high net to gross above the oil water contact. The top reservoir was encountered within our range of pre drill estimates."
The well was drilled using the semisubmersible drilling rig Bredford Dolphin. It will now drill well 16/3-6, also in PL501 to appraise the north-eastern flank of the discovery.
Lundin Norway is the operator in PL501 with 40% interest. Partners are Statoil Petroleum with 40% interest and Maersk Oil Norway with 20% interest.
