Exploration and production company Sound Oil is planning to drill its first appraisal well on the Laura discovery offshore Italy as part of a larger drilling program in the country next year.
Laura, in the D150 DR-CS permit in the Gulf of Taranto has P50 contingent resources estimated by Fugro Robertson of 30 Bscf. Sound Oil says drilling will be through a long-reach deviated well from onshore.
ENI/Agip discovered Laura in 1980, in 197m water, about 4km from the shore. Laura-1 was in two sand intervals. The Lina-1 discovery well was then make in the south of the permit area in 1983, estimated by Sound Oil to contain 10 Bscf. However, neither were developed and the permit was relinquished in 2005.
Sound Oil applied for the permit in 2007, however, operations halted in 2010 when the Italian government banned oil and gas activity within 5nm of the coast.
Sound Oil now expects to be re-awarded the permit, after the ban was lifted earlier this year. The firm is planning to drill its first appraisal well on Laura in early 2014.
Sound Oil is also planning exploration drilling on its Badile and Zibido prospects, onshore Italy.
