Several companies have stepped forward to assist in relief efforts for tornado victims in Oklahoma. Apache Corp., BP, Conoco Phillips, Chevron Corp., Noble Energy Inc., Chesapeake Energy, Exxon Mobile Corp., and others have made pledges of at least US $500,000 in support of relief efforts.
ConocoPhillips, Chesapeake Energy, and Koch Industries have committed to donating $1 million each to assist in helping victims and rebuilding the area.
Oklahoma-based Chesapeake Energy is also supporting relief efforts by providing a crane and two front-end loaders—operated by Chesapeake staff—to assist with debris clean up. In addition, the company has also provided about a dozen generator-powered flood lights to assist with rescue operations.
“Our hearts go out to the victims of these terrible storms, and Chesapeake and our employees are doing all we can to aid in the disaster recovery efforts in our hometown community,” said Archie W. Dunham, chairman of the board. “We are providing all possible assistance using Chesapeake equipment, machinery and resources and many of our people are already mobilized under the Operation Blue banner and assisting in the rescue efforts.”
Operation Blue is Chesapeake's summer volunteer program that allows employees four hours of company time to give back to the organization of their choice.
In addition to their donations, BP, Conoco Phillips, Chevron, and Noble Energy have agreed to match donations made by their employees to further aid with relief attempts.
